GU9 Fall 2011 season - Game 5 (Saturday, October 1st) 10/07/2011

Dixie Dragons  0  -  Strikers FC  3

The game was tied 0-0 at the half. Our girls started the second half very motivated and played great scoring 3 goals by Jadyn and Heidi (2).

After losing their first 2 games of the season, our "little" Strikers have now won 3 games in a row. They are really coming together as a team.  Coach Joe, Coach Jake and Coach Davon are doing a great job. The girls are working hard while having a lot of fun and it is paying off.
Keep it up, girls!!
GO STRIKERS!!

Southern Utah Real  0  -  Strikers FC  1

Third win in a row... We did not play with the same intensity as we did the week before against Dominators. However, our team played well enough to get the win. We had several chances but we scored only once. Megan scored the only goal of the game in the first half. On a goal kick from the other team, Megan received the ball on the left side at the 20 yard line, she controlled the ball forward and kicked it right back into the net with a hard straight shot.
The girls keep progressing and it is a lot of fun to coach them. Very proud and happy for them for their success so far.
GREAT JOB STRIKERS!!!

Dominators 1  -  Strikers FC 2

PHE-NO-ME-NAL ... Both teams played very well. We scored first with a signature free kick from Jacquel from 30 yards out. We scored our second goal in the middle of the first half. Following a corner kick for our team, there was a scramble in the penalty box, the ball arrived to Megan at the far post. She made a volley kick that went high above the keeper and fell right underneath the cross bar. Dominators scored just before half time after a great cross from the right side. Their forward took advantage of our defense being a little too relax and sunk the ball into the net.

There was no score in the second half but it was an intense battle between the 2 teams.
All our players played a great great game. They listened to the coaches' instructions and executed well.
This was a major improvement from 2 weeks ago and a fantastic win for our U13 team against a very strong Dominators team. It is promising for the future. So proud of our team. Hopefully, we can stay consistent.
GREAT JOB STRIKERS!!! Let's keep it up!!

Strikers FC 2  -  Fire FC Fuego 0

First game of the Fall season ... It is good to have the first win under our belt. We had many chances to score but we were a bit clumsy in front of the goal. This was our first game on turf in more than 3 months and our girls had to adapt to it ... much faster than on grass.
Great job by Sydnee H who scored both goals for our team, one in each half.
There is room for improvement but a win is a win and we'll take it.
GO STRIKERS!!

Strikers FC 3  -  Bombers FC 0

It was night and day between this week's game and last week's loss. Our team played much much better. We had several chances in the first half but the Bombers keeper was having a great day and made some great saves. The second half looked like it was going to be a repeat of the first half. Then, after a pass over the defense from Serena, Jacquel ran after the ball and scored our first goal by kicking the ball over the keeper's head as she was coming out of her box. No more than 2 minutes later, Sidney made a run down the side line and along the goal line dribbling a couple of defenders, then fed a perfect pass inside the keeper's box  to Jacquel who scored her second goal of the day. Within the last minute of the game, as the second were winding down, Sarah received the ball in the penalty box and shanked the ball with her right foot but the ball came back to her left foot for a second chance shot that, this time, she didn't miss.
Not only it was a needed win, it was a good win as we executed better.
GREAT JOB STRIKERS!!!

Strikers FC 0  -  DH Lightning 1

It was another cold and rainy day day. We did not play very well, having problems making accurate passes, not attacking the ball enough and losing the 50-50s. We had a couple of chances but they didn't go in. DH Lightning was more realistic with their chances. They a shot on the cross bar and scored on a break away.
Not a very good day for our team. It happens but we need to learn to play our game whatever the playing conditions are.
LET'S GO STRIKERS!!

Forza South 2  -  Strikers FC 0

It was a cold and windy day as it is very often when we play in Cedar City and our girls never really got their head in the game. We gave up a goal early in the first half and a second goal late in the second half. We had a couple of shots on goal but we couldn't score. It was a disappointing loss because our team is more than capable to compete with Forza.
We now have a couple of weeks to regroup until next game.
LET'S GO STRIKERS!!

Flash 0  -  Strikers FC 2

Our team played a strong game with nearly 20 shots on goal, the most we ever had. However, due to a good keeper for Flash along with a little clumsiness in front of the goal on our part, we could only score 2 goals.
The first goal was scored by Kyara (2nd goal in 3 games) after a great assist from Chloe from the left side. Chloe's pass split the defenders and Kyara received the ball at the penalty spot. Right away, she took a shot to the top right hand corner of the goal out of reach of the keeper. Within the first minute of the second half kickoff, Serena took the ball from the 40 yard line and run with it towards the goal. Seeing defenders trying to break her off at the top of the penalty box, she struck a great low shot inside the right post from 20 yards out to score the second goal for our team and her second of the season.

It was a good win for our team. We will keep working on being more efficient in front of the goal.
GREAT JOB, STRIKERS!!!

Strikers FC 1 - Dixie Blaze 2

Our team competed very well against Dixie Blaze. Last time we faced this team, they dominated 95% of the game. This time around, the level of play was more even between the 2 teams. Blaze scored first around the 7th minute of the game. Our team reacted very well and we had a couple of chances during the first half but none went in.
Five minutes in the second half, Jacquel scored on a beautiful free kick from the 20 yard line and tied the game. With about 15 minutes left in a game, Blaze scored a second goal. Our girls, one more time, didn't give up and went right back to work. The last five minutes of the game became crazy after Jacquel saw one of her shots hit the post. The ball didn't go in but it totally energized our players. Pushed by a loud cheering crowd in the stands, our players totally assailed the other team's penalty box for the remainder of the game. However, despite our best efforts, we could not tie the game.
It was an exciting game. Our team is in constant progression.

KEEP IT UP, STRIKERS!!!

Hot Shots 0 - Strikers FC 4

Kudos to both teams for playing under really bad weather: cold and constant rain.
Our team had a strong first half. Jacquel scored the first goal (with her left foot). Ashlyn then scored on a beautiful free kick from the 20 yard line. Kyara scored her first goal with the Strikers after a perfect cross from India. Sarah scored the 4th goal for our team after sending back a ball cleared by the other team's defense.
We had several shots on goal in the second half but none went in.
It was a great way for our team to start the season with a win under really bad weather.
GREAT JOB STRIKERS!! KEEP IT UP!!

PS: A special thank you to Sidney's parents for providing a canopy to help our team stay as dry as possible.
A big thank you to our parents who always come and cheer for our team no matter what the weather is.

Thank you for your support
