Dominators 2 - Strikers FC 1
What an exciting game that was! Our players had their best game of the season against a team that had dominated us in the past. They always had beaten by at least 5 or 6 goals and we had never scored against the Dominators in previous games.
Our girls got in the game right away. Kailee filled in for Ceili in the goals. Our defense held their own with great help from the midfielders. We played evenly with the Dominators for most of the half but we conceded a goal around the 20th minute on a fluke after a great first save from Kailee. That did not phase our girls who kept playing strong. Within 5 minutes in the second half, Dominators scored a 2nd goal. Still, we kept playing hard. Around the 25 minutes in the second half, our defense cleared the ball into the other team's half. Kyara went after the defender who had gotten first on the ball. Not giving up, she managed to steal the ball from the defender and make a great pass to her right to Sarah who went for a breakaway towards the goal. As the keeper was coming out of her box, Sarah shot the ball over the keeper and into the net. Beautiful Goal!! This was Sarah's 3rd goal of the season. Our players, completely energized after this goal, kept pounding the other team for the last 5 minutes of the game. Unfortunately, we could not tie the game but it didn't matter. Our girls knew they had had a great game. I believe this was a defining game for our team. I am very proud of our players. Great, great game STRIKERS!!
Strikers FC 1 - Bombers 0
We finished our regular season with a win. In the middle of the first half, Ashlyn threw the ball in towards Jacquel from the left side of the field. With the ball still bouncing, Jacquel did not hesitate and kicked the ball hard from about 35 yards out. The ball went high, bounced over the keeper's head and finished its course into the net. This was Jacquel's 4th goal of the season and only goal of the game. We had several chances to score on breakaways; Kyara had a good shot on goal from about 25 yards out but ,every time, we came a little short from adding more to the score. The Bombers team had a couple of serious chances to tie the game but our defense played a serious game and helped preserving the win. Overall, it was another great team effort. With this win, we met our goal of winning at least 4 games this season. GREAT JOB, STRIKERS!!!
Next, We will face Dominators in a playoff game on October 23rd to have a chance to finish 3rd in our division at the end of a Fall season that has been very exciting and rewarding so far. GO STRIKERS!!
Dominators 5 - Strikers FC 0
Our team had a rough start. Not sure if our players were a little intimidated by the opposing team or because it was our first time playing at night or something else but we were down 3-0 after only 12 minutes in the game. Then, it seemed that our players settled down and we played better and held our own for the rest of the first half. Dominators scored a 4th goal early in the second half. We had a few incursions in the other team's half of the field and managed to get a couple of shots but, alas, not enough to score. Dominators then added a 5th goal late in the second half.
After trailing quickly 3-0 in the game, our girls never gave up. They kept playing. They showed spirit out there and that is always a positive thing even in a loss. We win some, we lose some. The most important thing is that we have a fun and talented group of players. They continue to progress and learn ... and it is a pleasure to coach them and see them having fun together playing the game of soccer. GO STRIKERS!!
Dixie Blaze 0 - Strikers FC 1
Oh what a tough game that was and a win to remember! Our team was dominated for almost the whole game. Blaze had several chances to score on breakaways or shots. Their attempts went either wide or were blocked by Ceili or our defenders. Kudos to Ceili and our defense to keep us in the game!!
With 5 minutes left to go in the second half, the score was still tied at 0-0. After another ball cleared by our defense, India received the ball in our half of the field close to the half line and made a beautiful pass intended for Sarah through the Blaze's defense. Sarah then put the turbo on and ran clear off the defenders pushing the ball up the field for a one on one show down with the keeper. At the top of the penalty box, Sarah kicked the ball as hard as she could towards the goal. The ball went through the keeper's hands and between her legs to finish in the net and give our team the lead. This was Sarah's second goal of the season.
It was then "battle of the trenches" for the last 5 minutes of the game as Dixie Blaze kept assailing our goal to try to tie the game but our whole team defended as a block and held strong to preserve the win. Our team remains 3rd in overall standings.
GREAT JOB, STRIKERS!!
Strikers FC 0 - SU Thunder 2
We had a chance to score in the first half by a very good shot from Jacquel after a cross from Sidney. Our defense held strong for a great part of the first half but a little lack of attention cost us a goal about 5 minutes from the half. We conceded a second goal on a corner kick towards the end of the second half.
Even though our team was defeated last week-end, the coaches told the players to keep their head up as they played really hard against the top team of our division. Our girls are getting better at remembering their positions and their assignments on the field. They keep progressing individually and as a team. After game 4, our team stands 3rd in GU12 standings after 2 wins and 2 losses. Keep up the good job, girls !!
Flash 0 - Strikers FC 3
Our team took possession of the ball early. Around the 15th minute, Megan hustled the ball away from a defender 30 yards away from the goal, ran down the center and placed the ball out of the keeper's reach to give our team the lead and score her first goal this season. Just before the end of the first half, Jacquel intercepted a goal kick from the other team, ran a few steps forward and buried a beautiful shot about 20 yards out to score the 2nd goal for our team and her 3rd goal of the season. In the second half, Kodee made a great run down the right side line and crossed the ball into a crowded penalty box. The ball arrived in front of MacKenzie who shot the ball without control to score her first goal of the season and the team's third on a very good day for Strikers FC.
Strikers FC 0 - Bombers Blast 0
This was a good occasion to rotate players at different positions on the pitch. After the Labor Day week-end break, It was a great scrimmage against a talented team to prepare for our next regular season game. Both teams had chances to score but nobody could find the net.
Strikers FC 1 - DH Lightning 0
Our first game of the season was a great test against a valiant team. It was the first time the team was playing on turf and under a sorching heat. The game could have gone either way. Both teams had shots on goal but Jacquel scored on a direct corner kick in the second half to put Strikers ahead. The team held strong to keep the lead and ultimately won the game. Great job girls!!
